Mental Health Summer Supports

All summer supports will begin on July 5, 2021 and end on August 27, 2021.

Individual Support

Social Workers, Child and Youth Counsellors and Psycho-Educational Consultants will provide individual support to students and parents by request.

Transition Support Groups

These groups will assist students as they transition into the next school year.  The focus will be on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies that will target feeling/signs of anxiety. These groups will be facilitated by a Social Worker and a Child and Youth Counsellor. 

Each group will be comprised of similar aged students to assist in creating a safe and comfortable group environment.

NOTE: Session #3 is FULL (August 9th  – August 12th for students born in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). Any applications made on or after June 28, 2021 will be waitlisted.

Kids Have Stress Too!® & Stress Lessons Groups

These groups will promote and address self-regulation and stress management strategies at each age and stage. During the month of July, these group sessions will be offered for students from Grade 1 to 12. 

Kids Have Stress Too! ® Grades 1 to 3: Helps promote self-regulation and effective stress-management skills and strategies.  

Kids Have Stress Too! ® for Grades 4 to 6: Provides practical, developmentally appropriate, engaging activities for children aged 9 to 12. Stress Lessons is a resource designed to help teach children how to manage stress today, and for the rest of their lives.  

Kids Have Stress Too! ® From Stressed Out to Chilled Out for Grade 7 to 9:  A student-centered inquiry-based approach to teach stress-management strategies and skills and build emotional resiliency.  

Kids Have Stress Too! ® Tools for Resiliency Grades 9 to 12: A resource designed to help youth become more resilient. Full of psychologically-sound strategies and tools, this resource will help teens strengthen resilience and positive coping skills.

NOTE: Session #2 is FULL (July 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22 for students born in 2010, 2011, 2012). Any applications made on or after June 28, 2021 will be waitlisted.

The Art of Wellness Group

The Art of Wellness is a 4-session group that will allow students an opportunity to connect on the Microsoft TEAMS platform in a fun and relaxing way. Students will learn strategies to cope with anxiety, stress by participating in a different art activity each week. The Art of Wellness Group will have a maximum of 12 students to allow for participations and connection.

The group is aimed at students born between 2006-2008 (students entering Grade 8-10 in September 2021), and will be facilitated by two (2) Halton Catholic Board Child and Youth Counsellors. All students will receive an art kit with supplies needed to participate in sessions.

Parent Webinars

HCDSB will offer parent webinars providing helpful hints and strategies to support a smooth return to school, particularly for students who are experiencing anxiety. We will have webinars for parents of elementary and secondary age students as well as a webinar specifically to support parents of students in the Life Skills class.

Christian Meditation Webinars

This summer, two (2) Christian Mediations sessions will be posted on the HCDSB website. These meditations can be used by students or as a family activity. Christian mediation is wonderful way to find stillness and connection with God.
